What Is Zumba?

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program that incorporates interval training as well as resistance training.

Founded in the mid-90s by Colombian dance and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez, Zumba has become one of the most popular exercise programs in existence today, with millions upon millions of people taking Zumba classes every week in 180 countries.

Zumba is a high energy workout, usually about an hour long, and classes are taught by instructors licensed by Zumba Fitness, LLC.

The music is inspired by the following dance styles: cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, hip hop, axé, and tango.

Zumba is so much fun that people love to describe it as exercise in disguise!
